2013 - 2015 | Singapore Polytechnic's Theatre Compass

I was a member of Singapore Polytechnic's drama club, Theatre Compass. In that time, I: (1) Co-directed The Garden of Truth: The Adam Project (2015); (2) Coordinated Hourglass Productions’ publicity in Arts Fiesta 2014; (3) Performed in Dear Chuck in Arts Fiesta 2013; and (4) Facilitated drama sessions.

Hourglass Productions was a bi-polytechnic collaboration with Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s drama club, Poly Stage Factor.

From 2013 – 2015, I continued to pursue my interest in drama and theatre through my extra-curricular activities. During my time in school, I was a member of Singapore Polytechnic’s drama club, Theatre Compass. I have progressively upgraded my skill sets in the club by taking on a range of roles and responsibilities.

In Arts Fiesta 2013, I performed in Dear Chuck. It was a refreshing experience working with a bigger ensemble than I have been exposed to in secondary school.

In Arts Fiesta 2014, Singapore Polytechnic’s Theatre Compass had collaborated with Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Poly Stage Factor for a theatrical double bill, Hourglass. I had coordinated the publicity efforts for Hourglass. I also supervised the designing and delegation for the Front of House.

At first, the prospect of managing the production’s publicity was daunting since I knew little about photo and video editing. Fortunately, the students at Ngee Ann Polytechnic were able to teach me some video editing skills after I approached them. The publicity campaign was made possible through the continuous communication with the students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Hourglass was the first time that I was involved backstage. I had gained perspective and insights about what goes into a production as a whole.

I do support my peers and the club wherever possible. I co-directed Garden of Truth: The Adam Project in 2015.

Some of the feedback about the show mentioned about the piece lacking motivation and connection to the audience. I have given it some thought and I think it may be because of how we went about creating the piece – writing out monologues and stringing them together. I have since continued exploring ways to bring forward more authentic performances.
