Volunteering with Cassia Kaki to engage in visual arts with the seniors of Cassia Crescent was different. In the sessions that I was there, the seniors explored using clay to make food models, painted their kampong and designed a phone book for their interest group. Visual art is a form that I am not very proficient in but it was comforting to get into it together and engage in it as a communal project with the seniors.
Also, since this was a ground-up initiative, I was able to witness the processes and effort taken to invite seniors down to join us for the programme. It was indeed very heartening to see all of them eventually looking forward to sessions and socialising with each other.
