In September 2019, I continued my dance education by enrolling in the Legacy Dance Co’s Dance Foundation class. It was 8 1.5-hour sessions with instructor, Ogus Goh. Legacy Dance Co’s approach was different, leaning more towards urban music and dance forms. While it nurtured an understanding of my body through groove and isolation, it was the different genre of music – a pop and hip hop genre I am not well acquainted with. Yet its stricter need to follow the beat that was perhaps the biggest takeaway I had from the course.
The encounter with Legacy Dance Co. also provided me with the chance to meet dancers at different levels of mastery (mostly more advanced than I) and from different backgrounds.
This choreography that we learnt only on the final class demonstrated the accuracy needed with following the beats.
